Mountaineer Blood Week continues with Emmitt Matthews Jr. of West Virginia putting his name on the transfer portal. This comes from an early report by VerbalCommits, which was later confirmed by Matthews on Twitter.
The young striker started 25 of 29 games for Bob Huggins this season with an average of 7.7 points, 4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game – with a season high of 14 points in West Virginia’s defeat by Syracuse Orange in the second round of the NCAA tournament 2021 on Sunday. It’s worth noting that Emmitt was one of several climbers reported as victims of death threats after exiting West Virginia.
Matthews posted a career high of 28 points in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Big 12 Conference tournament, where he led the Mountaineers to a disgruntled win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders as a true freshman.
The Washington native Tacoma first got involved with the UConn Huskies after high school, before later deciding to join Jordan McCabe, a roommate of the transfer portal, in Morgantown.
