Utah Football receives approval from Independence CC RB Tavion Thomas

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah football program received approval from RB Tavion Thomas of Independence Community College.

Tavion Thomas is coming to Utah after a season at Independence Community College in Kansas. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pirates are still in the middle of their season. You are 3: 2 and have two more games to play.

Thomas led ICC in rush trials, shipyards and touchdowns. The American from Dayton, Ohio announced his decision on Saturday afternoon via Twitter.

“I want to announce that I will be signing up to the University of Utah,” tweeted Thomas. “It took a long time, I just want to thank the men upstairs and those who supported me.”

Thomas played four of the five games this season, covering 347 yards on 50 tries for 5 touchdowns. He also has six catches for 58 yards.

In her 31:24 win over Butler Community College at the season opener, Thomas rushed 196 yards (10.9 yards per carry) for 3 touchdowns in 18 attempts. When they defeated Fort Scott CC 84-0, he ran the ball five times for 54 yards and a TD.

ICC suffered their first loss of the season against Garden City Community College (14-10). Thomas rushed for 62 yards and a score. He didn’t play in their 68-10 win over Highland Community College.

The following week against Hutchinson, Thomas ran 12 runs for 35 yards. The Pirates have two games to go, both against Dodge City Community College on May 9th and Coffeyville Community College.

Independence was featured in the Netflix series “Last Chance U” for two seasons. Thomas will compete for reps with the Utes that include Micah Bernard, Oklahoma Transfer TJ Pledger, LSU Transfer Chris Curry, and 2021 Signee Ricky Parks.

Thomas has experience in Division I and plays for Cincinnati. By the time Thomas graduated from junior college, he received offers from Akron, UAB, eastern Kentucky, southern Alabama, and Utah.

The 6’3 RB spent two seasons with the Bearcats from 2018 to 2019, collecting 689 yards and 7 touchdowns in 14 games.
