The Cincinnati Zoo welcomed a flamingo chick to its family on Friday. Zoo officials say the chick hatched overnight. It is the first flamingo chick to hatch in the zoo this year. The first flamingo egg of the year arrived in May. Zoo officials said the flamingo incubation usually lasts between 27 and 31 days, so they estimated that a wobbly flamingo chick would arrive in June. Flamingo chicks are nothing new to the zoo. Several hatched in the summer months of last year, joining the zoo’s already impressive herd. Zoo officials said flamingo chicks are white and gray when they hatch. They turn pink when they are around 2 years old.
