In a poll that ended September 4, cincinnati.com readers selected the winners of the Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the Week for the August 24-30 voting period.
The winners will receive a certificate that will be mailed through the school’s sports department.

You don’t have to be a subscriber to vote every Friday from Monday afternoon until 5:00 p.m. during the season. Please send all nominees to [email protected] by Monday morning for the previous week’s performances. The new ballot will be announced on Monday evening. You can vote once an hour from any device.
This week’s winners are:
Fall Girls’ Team: Taylor Football – Taylor beat Winton Woods 8-0 on August 25, followed by a 3-1 win over Ross two days later.
Fall boys team: Lakota West cross country skiing – Lakota West won the Möller Primetime “Blue” university race with a total of 37 points, a difference of 21 points compared to the runner-up St. Xavier. Four of the top 10 runners in the race were from Lakota West.
Boys cross-country skiing: William Zegarski, Little Miami – He won the Talawanda XC Invite August 28 with a time of 15: 46.1 and helped the Braves to a second place on the team.
Girl cross country: Ella Lambert, Turpin – The senior won first place in the Buckeye Running Opening Quad with Lakota East, Turpin and Sycamore, ran a time of 19: 13.2 and helped the Tigers to a first place on the team.
Soccer team: The space – What was supposed to be a week 10 meeting became the start of the season for La Salle, but the Lancers weren’t alarmed by an early visit to The Pit at Elder. A two-point conversion from quarterback Zach Branam gave La Salle a 53-52 win in overtime.
Soccer player, big school: Zach Branam, La Salle – He won the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown MVP Award for his role in the 53-52 win over Greater Catholic League South rival Elder. In the game, Branam passed for three points, ran for two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, maneuvered for 166 yards, passed for 175 and scored a 28-yard field goal.
Soccer player, small school: Bryce Highlander, Blanchester – He had six receptions for 147 yards and two offensive touchdowns. He also had a couple of late-game pass breaks on defense to defeat Goshen and bring home the King of the Road trophy for the first time since 2014.
Ohio boys golfers: Cooper Woolery, North East Clermont – He shot a hole-in-one on the 140-yard # 2 hole on Hickory Woods Golf Course in a loss to Madeira.
Ohio girl golfer golf: Emma Hamlet, Batesville – She was an EIAC conference winner at Brookhill Golf Course with a score of 71. This is her fifth invitational win of six that she has played this season.
Soccer player for boys: Sam McKee, Mason – The senior scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 win against Moeller on August 29th.
Soccer player for girls: Samantha Erbach, Waynesville – The freshman scored 7 goals and 3 assists in two wins against Carlisle and Prebble Shawnee this week.
Girl tennis player: Gabrielle “Elle” Frischer, Sycamore – The second first single player won on August 24th in a 3-2 team defeat against the Ursuline Academy. She is 4-1 in the season and 3-0 in the conference. She also won against Bellbrook in the Team State tournament on Friday.
Girls volleyball player: Meredith Gullette, Roger Bacon – The Senior Spartan had 17 kills, 2 blocks, and 15 digs in the four-set win against Age August 27 on Senior Night.
