Paul Dano cast as Steven Spielberg's father in the director's semi-autobiographical film

Paul Dano, the actor and director known for his roles in It will be blood, Prisoners and for his film Wildlifewill appear as the fictional version of Steven Spielberg’s father in an upcoming semi-autobiographical film about the director’s family and upbringing. Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen will also star in the upcoming film.

Set in Arizona in the late 1950s / early 1960s, Williams will play a version of Spielberg’s mother and Rogen will play a version of his favorite uncle. There will also be a fictional version of Spielberg himself, but the character will have a different name.

Long-time fans of the director may know what to expect from the film. The director’s childhood in Arizona is seen as a critical part of his life where he started making films with friends on a Super 8 camera and his parents’ marriage began to fall apart.

The script was written jointly by Spielberg and Tony Kushner. The two will also produce the project with Kristie Macosco Warrior from Amblin Partners. Production is expected to begin this summer with a release slated for 2022. The project is expected to be distributed through Universal.

Spielberg and Kushner are also working together on another project, an adaptation of the musical West Side Story with Rachel Zegler as Maria and Ansel Elgort as Tony. The Adaptation was originally supposed to appear at the end of last year, but was postponed to December 2021 due to the pandemic.

Dano will also appear as the Riddler in the highly anticipated Batman Matt Reeves’ film starring Robert Pattinson as the title bat. This film is slated to open on March 4, 2022 at the beginning of next year.
