Northern Kentucky Emergency Shelter Receives a US $ 10,000 Award

Give Where You Live NKY’s fundraising group gathered at Zoom last week to donate $ 10,000 to the northern Kentucky shelter in a process that took less than an hour.

In 2020 alone, the quarterly circle member meetings raised more than $ 25,000 in donations from community members.

“We are proud to present the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky with the NKY” Give Where You Live “grant for this quarter,” said Nancy Grayson, president of the Horizon Community Funds. “When we give together, we make an even bigger impression in our own garden. During this pandemic, supporting our community is more important than ever. “

Give Where You Live NKY is a joint initiative of Northern Kentucky Horizon Community Funds and Mueller Financial, Inc., and its format is for busy community members looking for an easy way to give back to nonprofits that Boone, Campbell, wants and counties of Kenton.

“There is no better gift in our community right now than giving away a bed in a warm and safe place to sleep, and that $ 10,000 gift could not have come at a better time,” said Kim Webb, executive director from Emergency Shelter. “When we opened on December 15, we moved overnight accommodation operations to the Campbell County Detention Center campus, which doubled both our capacity and our costs. We strive to do the right thing because we know it will work, and the $ 10,000 will help make it work. ”

The NKY Meetings 2021 Give Where You Live will take place on March 18, June 17, September 16 and December 9 – all Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“With temperatures plummeting in winter, it was comforting to see an organization like Northern Kentucky Emergency Shelter donate funds from our last NKY Give Where You Live round,” said Woody Mueller, Mueller Financial Partner. “Our members saw the need and have come together again to protect our most vulnerable.”

The meetings of the donation group adhere to a tight schedule in which the participating members name a non-profit organization of their choice and three names are chosen at random and briefly discussed by the group. Members then vote on their favorite of the three organizations, and each member donates $ 100 for the grant to the winning organization. All of this in less than an hour, just four times a year.

Give Where You Live NKY’s format also provides the ability to link funds with nonprofits without the need for nonprofits to spend financial resources and time collecting donations. Past winners of the Give Where You Live scholarships include the Scheben Care Center in Florence; The Gateway Community and Technical College Foundation, with campus locations in Northern Kentucky; Lucky Tales Rescue at Fort Thomas; Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Covington; Northern Kentucky Children’s Advocacy Center in Florence; Family Care Center in Florence; GO Pantry in Florence; The Covington Barracks Project; and Covington Partners in Covington.
