Wes Miller has deep roots in North Carolina
Miller’s hometown is Charlotte, North Carolina, and he attended Charlotte Country Day School as a freshman and Mercersburg Academy a sophomore before graduating from New Hampton, New Hampshire High School.
After a basketball season with James Madison, he moved to UNC, where he ended his career.
His entire coaching career has been in North Carolina, starting as an assistant at Elon in 2008-2009 and as an assistant at High Point the next season, and finally as an assistant at UNC Greensboro for a season before taking the job as head coach.
Wes Miller won a national championship for the tar heels
Miller averaged 1.1 points in 24 games for the 2004-05 North Carolina squad that won the national championship. Five of the six field goals he scored this season were 3-point goals.
The next year he reached career highs in minutes per game (22.9) and points per game (7.2) while also winning the Carmichael Cobb Award for Defensive Player of the Year and the Foy Roberson Award for Best Player.
Wes Miller’s only professional season was in the UK
After graduating from UNC, Miller played for the London Capitals of the British Basketball League.
He began his coaching career with Elon the next season.
Wes Miller is the most successful trainer in the history of UNC Greensboro
After taking over in the 2011-12 season, Miller won 185 games – the most in school history.
His teams won some or all three of the Southern Conference championships in the regular season and twice reached the NCAA tournament. They fell to the State of Florida in the last sixteen last season.
