McElroy: Baseball chat with ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian | Professional sport

Molina is second on this list. Years ago. We were in a catcher pitcher meeting and one of the pitchers said we should toss this guy a slider and Molina said, “No, no, no. We did that. It is, you know, at this point three years ago, and he got a double on the right field line. ”He only remembered a random pitch three years ago and the exact number and exact result. For current players, current catchers, it’s Yadier Molina. All the time. It’s johnny.

Question: Who is a player you met and with their intelligence and love of the game you would have sworn they would be a coach but they didn’t?

Answers: Cal Ripken Jr. is still on that list because when it comes to being observant and analytical, I’m not sure if I’ve ever met a player like him, his ability to argue with situations, understand situations , nobody is better than him. And I’m surprised he hasn’t made it yet, but he’s still a relatively young guy. He’s got all sorts of other things to do with his minor league team and little league baseball while his son is still playing. So Cal Ripken still has time to manage.

I would be intrigued to see him finish today as the game has changed so much. I think it would be a real challenge for him but I think he would do a really good job and I think one day he will do it just not sure when.
