If it wasn’t mere ball hawk down the middle, it was the wagging of fingers in the direction of QB Joey Gatewood as he withdrew the interception the other way. Carrington Valentine put a punctuation mark on an off-season banner that impressed the coaching staff.
On Saturday’s Fan Day, Valentine stepped in front of a Gatewood pass and picked it up in one of the most impressive pieces of practice.
Cats Illustrated’s Jeff Drummond commented after being intercepted, “The staff have been hailing CB Carrington Valentine as a possible breakout player on D throughout the spring and summer. Has just done the best game in Fan Day practice so far, taking Gatewood’s laser across the middle and doing them differently with it. Serious Ballhawk action in this case. “
The sophomore year out of Cincinnati, Ohio has really moved on since the bowl game last season. He saw action in 10 games last season, including a start against NC State at the Gator Bowl. He made 10 tackles, a pass break up, and a forced fumble during the season, but had the best six tackles of his career and caused a fumble in defeating NC State.
