Helen (Walker) Springer, retired accountant

Helen (Walker) Springer, 77, of Lewes died on Saturday, April 17, 2021 after a sudden illness. She was born on July 9, 1943 in Minquadale, the daughter of the late Walter and Grace (Dennie) Walker.

Ms. Springer worked for many years as an accountant at Newarc Welding and Fabricating in Wilmington and Douglas E. Estep in New Castle before moving full-time to Lewes with her husband in 2008. Helen enjoyed monthly lunches with friends, family visits, reading books and playing games on her Kindle Fire, and putting together puzzles. She was a devoted woman, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, her 53-year-old husband Gerald “Jerry” Springer died in front of Ms. Springer. her brothers: Walter, Vernon, Arnold and Daniel; and her sister Margaret. She is survived by her son Gerald Springer Jr. (Jay) and wife Kim (Bushay) Springer of Eastampton, NJ. her grandchildren: Joshua and Jenna Springer from Eastampton; her brother Charles Walker and sister-in-law Betty (Thomas) Walker of Wilmington; her sister Patricia (Walker) Estep and her brother-in-law Douglas Estep of New Castle; her sister Beulah (Walker) Clark and brother-in-law Edward Clark of California; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, where Helen has been based since July 2017, for their care and support over the past four years. The family also encourages anyone who may consider donating blood to the Delmarva blood bank or the closest, most convenient blood donation center in their memory.

No personal service will be offered due to COVID-19 restrictions.
