Cincinnati Zoo’s giraffe, Zoey, will celebrate her 5th birthday on Monday. Zoey was born in 2016 in the zoo of mother Jambo. She can be easily identified by her sagging left ear. Zoo officials said she was a somewhat clumsy calf and injured her ear when she was just a few months old. Her injury has been treated by the vet and her ear is fine, just drooping a little. Zoey is a very shy giraffe in general, but loves her treats and tears open cardboard boxes to get her favorite foods. The zoo works on protecting the species by partnering with the African Conservation Center in Kenya, which studies the geographic movement of giraffes. This research enables scientists to find out how much land giraffes need to survive successfully.
