Cincinnati Observatory appoints Hehman von Bellevue as executive director

The Cincinnati Observatory promoted its operations manager and Bellevue-based Anna Hehman to executive director.

Hehman is the first woman in the observatory’s 187 years.

She joined the Observatory’s staff in 2015 and, as Director of Operations, led fundraising and development efforts, as well as finance, human resources and marketing.

“I am excited and honored to play this role at such an exciting time for our organization, and I look forward to ensuring that this National Historic Landmark will educate, engage and inspire our community for many years to come about astronomy and space science “, Said Hehmann.

The board of trustees commissioned a search committee headed by the personnel consultancy Alinti to evaluate new managers for the observatory.

Hehman has fifteen years of community service experience with positions with the American Cancer Society and Notre Dame Academy. She is a graduate of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s C-Change Program (Grade 3) and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Northern Kentucky Program (2014 Grade). She has served on the boards of Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati and the Private Interests in Public Good (PIPG) program at Xavier University. She also volunteers with the Women’s Fund of Greater Cincinnati and serves as a volunteer cake maker for Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and Social Center.

A graduate of Center College in Danville, Kentucky, Anna earned an MBA from Williams College of Business at Xavier University.

Hehman is hosting the WVXU podcast “Looking Up” with observatory astronomer Dean Regas, who will continue to serve as astronomer and program director for the observatory.

At the beginning of the year, the board of trustees elected Anna Coutts as the first woman to the board.
