Cincinnati Enquirer Names High School Athlete of the Week, September 10th

In a poll that ended September 10th, Cincinnati.com readers voted the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, from high school sports promotion through September 5th.

The winners receive a certificate from the school’s sports department. The first round will appear at the end of September and beginning of October.

Ohio Soccer Team: Reading – Reading improved to 3-0, beating Summit Country Day 35-7. Reading have outstripped their three opponents 122-13.

Northern Kentucky Football Team: Walton-Verona – The Bearcats hosted Grant County, beating them 21-6 in the second half to win 35-20.

Boys autumn team: Möller football – Brock Kiper’s hat trick led Moeller to a 3-1 win at Lakota West on August 31.

Girls fall team: read girls soccer – Reading came back from 3-0 down against Deer Park and scored a goal with a minute to go in the first half, then scored 3 unanswered points and won 4-3. Olivia Simpson led the Blue Devils by four goals.

Boys cross-country runner: Jameson Maynes, Moeller – He finished fourth in the Lebanon Invitational with a time of 16:46. For Moeller it was the first race of the year since the rainy Moeller primetime the week before.

Cross country runners: Allison Kopser, Ryle – She won the Ryle Invitational by more than 120 runners and ran 19:01 to win by 45 seconds.

Field hockey: Evelyn Krebs, Ursuline Academy – The senior led her team to a 6-0 win over Talawanda with a hat trick of goals.

Ohio football player, big school: Nick Rabin, Lakota East – He scored two touchdowns – a 39-yard reception in the second quarter and a 47-yard run in the third quarter – to give Lakota East a 49-7 win over Middletown on September 3.

Ohio football player, small school: Kellen Lynch, Batavia The senior quarterback / running back went 29-for-59 for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns, adding 12 yards on 6 rushing attempts.

Football players from Northern Kentucky / Indiana: Tyson Beach, Walton-Verona – He stormed for 103 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-20 win over Grant County.

Boys golfers: Alex Rollman, Turpin – The newcomer was a medalist at the Moeller Crusader Classic with a Sept. 73 and led the team to victory over Milford with a Sept. 34.

Girl golfers: Isabella Beauregard, Ryle – She scored a team low of 44 in defeating South Dearborn on September 3, 195-225.

Ohio Boys soccer players: Sam Hughes, Anderson – The junior, who is runner-up on points (11) and goals (4) in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, scored 2 goals and 2 assists in three games last week.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana soccer players: Ethan Sands, Conner – He scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Boone County on September 2.

Ohio Girls Soccer Player: Lexi O’Shea, Seton – The newcomer scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Ursuline on August 30th.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana female soccer player: Payton Kenny, Walton-Verona – She led the Bearcats to the 8th Region All “A” championship with three shutouts and 17 saves and was named tournament MVP.

Tennis players, singles: Elle Frischer, Sycamore – She beat her Middletown opponent in the first individual in a 5-0 team win on September 3rd and she also beat her Hamilton opponent in a 4-0 team win. In addition, she outperformed her Mariemont opponent on August 30th.

Girls tennis player, doubles team: Mya Reardon and Kiera Millerchip, Sycamore – The girls beat their first one-two opponents from Middletown on September 3rd in a 5-0 team win. They are 3: 1 in the season.

Ohio volleyball player: Sophia Hudepohl, St. Ursula – The senior, who leads the Girls Greater Catholic League with 177 assists, had 20 digs, 1 block, 3 service aces, 47 assists and 4 kills in a 3-2 win over Mount Notre Dame on September 2nd.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana volleyball player: Katie Rolf, Beechwood – She had 15 kills and 20 digs in a win over Bishop Brossart.
