Cincinnati Enquirer appoints high school athletes of the week on January 22nd

In a poll that ended January 22nd, readers of Cincinnati.com selected the winners for the Cincinnati Enquirer Athlete of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, for the January 11-17 voting period.

At the end of the season, the winners will receive a certificate that will be sent out by the school’s sports department.

You don’t have to be a subscriber to vote from Monday evening until 5:00 p.m. every Friday during the season. Please send all nominees to [email protected] by Sunday evening for the previous week’s performances.

This week’s winners are:

Ohio winter team, guys: The bowling hall – La Salle defeated Elder 2972-2884 and then took first place in the GCL Quad meeting, beating Elder, St. Xavier and Moeller on January 15th.

Ohio Winter Team, Girls: Hamilton Bowling – The GMC leaders took conference victories against Middletown and Fairfield.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana Boys’ Team: Campbell County Basketball – The Camels beat Harrison County on January 15th to improve to 4-1.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana girls’ team:·Cooper basketball – The Jaguars pissed off last year’s runners-up in the ninth region, Notre Dame, by 40:27 and improved to 4-1 during the season.

Ohio Boys basketball player, major school: Austin Coldiron, Anderson – The Senior Center scored 27 points in 13v14 shooting and had 9 rebounds in a win over Harrison on January 16. Austin also had 21 points in 8v10 shooting from the field (5v5 of the free throw line) and took 6 rebounds in a win over Loveland on Jan. 15.

Ohio Boys basketball players, small school: Sam Nunn, Ross – The Senior Guard had 15 points and eight steals in Ross’ 56-44 win over Talawanda on January 15th.

Ohio girl basketball player, big school: Courtney Dean, Oak Hills – The Junior Guard had 18 points and eight rebounds in Oak Hills’ 58-44 win over Unioto on January 16.

Ohio girl basketball player, small school: Kaylen Crossty, Gamble Montessori – The senior striker had 21 points, five rebounds and three steals in the Gators 49-31 win over Finneytown on January 16.

Basketball player from Northern Kentucky / Indiana: Donovan Robinson, Ryle – In 5 games, the Junior Guard has an average of 20 PPG. In an 87-48 win over Nicholas County, Donovan set 2 school records with the most points in a game with 37 points, while he set a school record of 10 with three points. The Ryle Raiders are in a three-game winning streak with wins over Central Kentucky, Nicholas County and Holmes.

Girls basketball player from Northern Kentucky / Indiana: Marie Kiefer, Bishop Brossart – She scored 26 points and had 16 rebounds in the 59-22 win over Central Hardin on January 16. She also had 18 points in defeating Paris on January 11th and 14 in defeating Augusta on January 14th.

Bowler for boys: Alex Toelke, La Salle – He bowled a Quad-High 491 (244, 247) of the Greater Catholic League-South when the Lancers beat Elder, Moeller and St. Xavier.

Girl bowler: Therese Suchoski, Ursuline – The junior led the Lions to a win over MND on Thursday, bowling a 321 overall. Therese was an asset to her victory.

Ice Hockey: Jacob “Veggie” Vegso, Northern Kentucky Norse – The Beechwood student scored 3 goals and 4 assists last weekend. They went 3-0 as a team against Owensboro Rampage once and Evansville twice in the KHSHL game.

Boys swimmers / divers: Nathan Wall, St. Xavier – The senior won four events while meeting Mason and Sycamore at the Keating Invitational – 200 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke, and 200 IM on January 17th.

Swimmer / Diver: Elizabeth Fager, Summit Country Day – She won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke in the 563-468 team loss to Roger Bacon.

Ohio Boys Wrestling: Luke Marsh, Lebanon – The junior, who has a 13-2 record with 8 pins so far this season, won his £ 152 match by an important decision from the 12th place team finish.

Ohio Girl Wrestling: Chloe Dearwester, Harrison – The nationally ranked freshman wrestler has a 17-1 record, including 4-0 at Boys’ College. Placed in 14th place, she nailed the nationally ranked 15th wrestler in the final of the Heart of Ohio tournament on January 17th. Her only loss was 6-5 against the nation’s No. 1 girl as she moved up a weight class.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana Wrestling: Jameson Smith, Ryle – He helped the Raiders beat defending champions Union County, 35-30, by beating Union County’s Gavin Ricketts 5-4 in the ultimate tiebreaker in the final match of the meeting with 138 pounds.
