CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio – Three students from Chagrin Falls High School (CFHS) became the first team in the school’s history to win first place in the Ohio Stock Market Game.
The Stock Market Game is a product of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) foundation, an independent educational organization dedicated to promoting student knowledge of the financial markets. They have served 17 million students since they were founded in 1977.
The Stock Market Game is an online simulation of the global capital markets. Students in Grades 4 through 12 can attend to familiarize themselves with the world of business, investing, and personal finance.
The overall goal of the program is to create a basic understanding of investing and to provide students with real-world skills. It also strengthens their understanding of math, English, arts, economics, social studies, and other school subjects.
The Stock Market Game was part of the CFHS Marketing and Financial Literacy course, which lasted 12 weeks during the semester. There were 17 business class teams that competed against 400 other teams in the state of Ohio.
In theory, each team received $ 100,000 to invest and build their portfolio.
The winning team members Juniors Stephen Rust and Mitchell Gravely as well as sophomore Robert Schron received gift cards and certificates for their efforts. In addition to first place, Chagrin Falls also had teams in 10th and 25th place for the state.
