Medicare Advantage is currently ending the Open Enrollment Period (OEP), which is ending March 31st. “OEP allows members to make a one-time plan change that protects beneficiaries,” says Phillips, noting that “a historic change has occurred when members lose confidence in a newly elected plan, such as when they receive incorrect network information have or have delays in receiving member materials. “

While the registration process is straightforward for a beneficiary, coordination between insurers and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) can be administratively cumbersome. Phillips explains, “Determining eligibility, reviewing low-income subsidies, and coordinating with other programs like Medicaid are just a few of the processes that must be done at enrollment time to properly serve new members, and this is where mistakes are made on.”

“Our technology team at Cavulus faced the manual management of registration workflows with the introduction of our EMMA in 2018 [Enrollment, Member Management & Administration] solution, “ said Phillips. “Our breakthrough technology has since dramatically improved and modernized the registration process for Cavulus customers.”

Mary Beth JenkinsUPMC Health Plan’s Chief Administrative and Operating Officer said, “EMMA has been instrumental in achieving our organizational goals through improved automation and visibility of the member registration experience. Real-time registration and member communications have enabled us to make implementation easier.” More efficient processes that reduce our overall compliance risk through less manual intervention. Better visibility of key registry performance metrics has resulted in easier regulatory oversight. ”

Phillips explains: “At the At its core, EMMA automates administrative functions and provides transparency so that insurers can be proactive and offer a high-touch service if necessary to ensure a great member experience. “
