Carol Ann Hughes, 78, was with the Lord early Friday morning at the Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Health Center in Altoona. She was born in Altoona to the late Leahman A. Hughes and Mary Catherine Sipos.

Three sisters are surviving: Mary Metcalf and Gloria J. Floyd, both from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joanna Hughey from Dysart; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nieces and nephews.

It was preceded by the death of a brother, Harold James Hughes; a sister, Priscilla Hughes-Star; four half-sisters: Helen Chalfant, Dorothy Yannone, Phyllis Whisner, and Naomi Stanford; a half-brother, Edward J. Hughes; and their kittens Maggie and Angel K.

She graduated from Altoona High School in 1960.

Carol Ann was a member of the Brothers in Christ Church.

After working for many years, she retired as a domestic helper and was previously employed by GC Murphy, Co. as deputy managing director. Carol Ann used to work with her father at LA Hughes Used Furniture and Antiques.

Carol Ann loved spending time with family and friends, and she was always the first to come out for someone in need. She looked after her parents until her death. Carol Ann was enjoying her record collection, her kitten “Vinny”, read the Bible, go to church and on all holidays.

She volunteered with Contact Altoona and the Blair Senior Services and Meals-on-Wheels program from 2004 to 2012. She also taught the Sunday School class for beginners and served as the superintendent of the junior department for many years.

There will be no viewing or funeral service.

The burial takes place in the Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

The arrangements are from Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
