A guide to celebrating the start of baseball in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – There won’t be a parade on the opening day of the Findlay Market this Thursday, but there will be other ways to celebrate the start of the Cincinnati Reds season.

Red’s Opening Day: April 11th. 1. Mac’s Pizza Pub High Street, 604 Main St., Covington. Free. Mac’s Pizza Pub celebrates opening day with $ 7.99 lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., plus $ 3 Fireball shots, $ 4 LITs and craft pints, and $ 9 Liquor Buckets. Tafts opening day: 11.30am, April 1st. Tafts Ale House, 1429 Race St. Over-the-Rhine. Free. Tafts Ale House will kick off Reds Opening Day with the release of its new wheat beer, Walk Off Wheat. Red’s opening day on the dike: 3 p.m. April 1st. Box Park on the Levee, 1 Levee Way, Newport. Free. Buy your peanuts and cracker jack and get ready to root for the home team at Newport on the Levee on this opening day. Cheer on the Reds with fellow fans and baseball-themed sips and snacks along the Ohio River for the first game of the season to air on the big screen. Celebrate the opening day with 3CDC: noon to 8 p.m., April 1st. Washington Park, 1230 Elm St., Rhein- und Brunnenplatz, 520 Vine St., downtown. Free. Arnold’s (socially distant) opening day extravaganza: Just like the parade, Arnold’s has become an opening day tradition for many Cincinnatians. There might not be a parade, but Arnold’s will be putting together one of the best beer lists, live music, hundreds of signed prizes, Avrel Bleh hot dogs and of course Jim Tarbell.
