Not all winners are winners, but all winners are winners. 100 dachshund puppies, each wearing a hot dog bread outfit, are fighting for the coveted title of fastest Viennese dog in Cincinnati. This is an annual event that kicks off the celebration of Jin Jin Nati Oktoberfest. The Wienerslauf with 100 dogs is planned for Thursday lunchtime on Banks Freedom Way between Walnut Street and Rosa Parks Street. Each dog wears the provided hot dog pan outfit while running approximately 75 feet in 10 runs towards the owner who is waiting at the finish line. The winner of each round competes to determine the winner of the last race’s Viennese. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Dachshunds will be awarded. Purebred dachshunds are preferred, but mixed breed dachshunds are allowed as long as they are of average length and weight. The event was abolished in 2020, but in 2019, 1-year-old Maple and his owner Jake Thunder took first place. Wieners Laufen is an annual event and one of the most popular celebrations at the city’s Oktoberfest. Munich is usually home to the world’s largest Oktoberfest, but Cincinnati will hold the title this year and Munich will put the celebration on hold. The festival starts for the first time on Thursday and lasts until Sunday evening. That means extra nights with beer, burgers, sausages and more time.
